2023-2024 Board Bill 232 — Safe Place for Newborns Act

Summary

The bill directs the Director of the City’s Department of Health, Chief of the St. Louis Fire Department, and Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Department to implement a program whereby a parent may deliver an infant not more that forty-five days-old to the care of the state anonymously and without fear of prosecution as provided in Missouri’s Safe Place for Newborns Act, Chapters 170.312 and 210.950 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. The bill directs the Director of the Health Department, Chief of the St. Louis Fire Department, and Commissioner of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to identify and designate Engine Houses and Area Patrol Stations as safe locations for receiving infants pursuant to the New Safe Place for Newborns Act. The bill specifically designates Fire Department Engine House #17 as such a location and directs the Chief to have a newborn safety incubator installed in Engine House #17.
